39 Houses to Replace Blackrod Community Centre ?

The consultation, on the draft allocation plan is ending in the next few weeks.
Among the allocated proposals are to replace Blackrod Community Centre with 39 houses. This has already passed the preliminary stages – hence the allocation.
Other sites which have allocations against them include the green spaces on Shawbury Close and Manchester Road.
There are also a number of unallocated proposals which include changing Scott Lane Industrial Estate, into a housing development. It has been noted that the boundary of the Blackrod Industrial Estate, for infilling, also contains a number of greenbelt fields.

This proposal must surely be a text-book example of housing over-development. Only two play areas exist in Blackrod, only one playing field and only one community centre and all will be wiped out if this proposed development is allowed to go ahead. Even some relatively small green open spaces (currently oases within the Green Barn estate) are under threat, such as that near Shawbury Close. There needs to be concerted resistance mounted against this ill-considered plan!

I totally agree. What a shame that these people are intent on completely taking the community out of Blackrod. The playing field and the community centre are at the heart of this area and should absolutely be left alone. These houses should not be built and the remaining allocations for Shawbury Close and Manchester Close should be declined. There are lots of unhappy children who are at this very minute signing a petition against all this nonsense.

I have only just heard about this proposal. My bungalow is adjacent to the community centre and will be overlooked by these proposed houses therefore losing my privacy rights. My neighbours and I should have been informed about this application, but were not. The community centre is the only form of contact for a lot of people also this is a green belt area. Where will Blackrod football team play if the only playing field is taken away?

Once more the Vikings under the disguise of Bolton Council are pillaging Blackrod for monetary gain in an attempt to rob us of the well used community centre, football pitches and play areas all around the Green Barn/ Vicarage Rd estates.I was always under the impression that this land was to be used solely for social activity by the Blackrod residents. The council sold their own Council offices and moved into the library reducing that room from previously used social activity. Enough is Enough.
